Round two. Fight!
What They Say:
“Haunted Castle Trap”
In the second round of the tournament, the Try Fighters will be facing team SD-R from Toritsu Academy, representing Niigata. These three brothers are formidable enemies, who have made it this far by thoroughly analyzing their opponents’ data, and then using their SD Gundams to execute precision tactics with skillful teamwork. As rival players look on, the battle finally begins. The Try Fighters must search through a huge haunted castle, watching out for enemy attacks. But due to Yuuma’s unexpected weak point, they fall for their opponent’s plan, and the Try Fighters are split up. Fumina heads underground to rejoin her teammates, and finds that a time bomb has been planted to block her path. Meanwhile, Sekai and Yuuma have fallen underground and are now in peril due to the enemy’s Absorb System, which pins down their machines by absorbing Plavsky particles.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
I think this is the first time that Team Try Fighters has prepared for a match. This time around, they’re facing off against Team SD-R, a team comprised of only SD Gundams. They strived in teamwork in the last round and they’re likely to use strategy rather than the “burst in and break stuff” method that Sekai tends to employ.
Studying opponents only gets you so far, though. You have to have talent, which Team Try Fighters has, to take care of the situations that strategies couldn’t predict. Plus, no one on Team Try Fighters is particularly strategic. Hoshino can plan out gunpla for support pretty well and Yuuma can act on his own with some semblance of thought, but they can never meld all that together. It doesn’t really matter though, because it’s the working together that counts.
Another first for Team Try Fighters, the teamwork is finally there. Sekai and Yuuma are looking out for each other and Hoshino comes in and saves the day—or at least the moment. Given that the opponent is no longer three SD Gundams, but one big dragon gunpla thing, they have to work together.
More importantly, we got girls fighting over Sekai and poor Hoshino missed her opportunity to do anything. Gyanko and Kijima Shia, the girl who helped Sekai fix Build Burning earlier, are vying for his attention. And Sekai is clueless. Typical shonen protagonist.
In Summary:
I loved the parallel between the gunpla’s face and the fighters’ face near the end of the episode. That aside, I love how they’ve been building up this moment. Sekai isn’t going to be able to beat this thing on his own and it wouldn’t be satisfying if he did. Team Try Fighters is going to hunker down and fight together or die together. Yuuma’s already willing to do so for Sekai’s sake and of course Hoshino would too, and vice versa with Sekai and either of them. It’d be nice to see someone else beat the opponent for once, but Sekai’s making it really exciting.
